Housing, Sanitation & Dignity
Safe homes, sanitation, hygiene, and essential community infrastructure are not side issues. They directly affect health, learning, economic stability, and human dignity.
Why This Pathway Matters
Families cannot fully benefit from education, health, or livelihood opportunities when housing is unsafe or sanitation is inadequate. Infrastructure creates the basic conditions in which other forms of progress can take hold.
This pathway treats dignity as a development outcome in its own right, while recognizing its direct connection to public health and opportunity.
Current Evidence
JD Sheth Foundation publicly reports that the first 10 of a planned 20 pit latrines for vulnerable Dago households were completed in 2025, with the remaining 10 planned for 2026. Its project archive also records a 2025 Dago housing project with Amani Partners Kenya. Historical records add safe-water infrastructure. We are now strengthening household completion, local-selection, hygiene, maintenance, and 2026 closeout records before publishing wider cumulative totals.
Community Leadership
Community leadership identifies households and facilities where housing, sanitation, hygiene, or infrastructure needs are most urgent and helps oversee implementation.
Friends of Dago’s Role
Mobilize capital, technical support, materials, partnerships, fiduciary oversight, and reporting while keeping local approval and implementation at the center.
Housing
Widow housing construction and rehabilitation focused on safer, more secure living conditions for vulnerable households.
Sanitation & Hygiene
School and community toilet projects, hygiene education, and public-health infrastructure that support safer everyday environments.
Community Infrastructure
Completion of community learning infrastructure, including the resource library and computer-lab functions that strengthen access to knowledge and opportunity.
What We Measure
Safe housing and sanitation access are part of Friends of Dago’s formal impact measurement framework, alongside community feedback and annual learning reviews.
2030 Priority
The strategic plan identifies completion of another 10 window-house initiatives, alongside continued sanitation and community-learning infrastructure investment.
