Ethical Global Learning & Partnerships
Global engagement should strengthen community leadership—not replace it. This pathway creates responsible ways for universities, foundations, volunteers, institutions, and other partners to learn, contribute, and build lasting relationships around local priorities.
Why This Pathway Matters
Well-intentioned global engagement can still create dependency or displace local expertise when outsiders define the agenda. Friends of Dago uses a different model: community priorities come first, knowledge flows both ways, and partners enter as learners and contributors rather than saviors.
Ethical partnerships can also generate earned revenue and long-term institutional relationships that strengthen sustainability beyond traditional donations.
Documented Partnership History
Public, university, partner, and community records document long-standing relationships across education, health, water, enterprise, environmental work, sponsorship, and learning exchange—including Village Volunteers, Toronto Metropolitan University/Ryerson, One Way Out, Ascend Kenya/WSF, Amani Partners Kenya, Mission Partners Kenya, IDEAS For Us, Well Aware, and JD Sheth Foundation. Current status and responsibilities are being confirmed partner by partner rather than assuming every historical relationship remains active.
Community Leadership
Dago community leadership determines what partnerships are appropriate, what visitors or institutions should work on, and how activities align with local priorities. No program moves forward without local approval.
Friends of Dago’s Role
Coordinate partners, manage fiduciary and logistical responsibilities, prepare participants, protect community priorities, and build relationships that continue beyond a single visit or grant.
Community-Led Immersion
Service-learning and Dago365-style experiences designed around community priorities, preparation, reflection, reciprocity, and responsible cultural engagement.
University & Institutional Partnerships
Longer-term relationships that can combine learning, research, capacity building, technical expertise, funding, and reciprocal knowledge exchange.
Volunteer, Alumni & Ethical Services
Volunteer and alumni engagement plus fee-based partnership services that create value for participants while generating resources to sustain community-led work.

A Blended Sustainability Model
The 2025–2030 strategy combines grants, ethical earned revenue, individual and diaspora giving, sponsorships, and corporate support to reduce dependency and protect community priorities.
The Standard
Nothing starts with donors. Everything starts with the community. Global partners support local priorities; knowledge flows both ways; and money is only one of the resources a strong partnership can contribute.
