Kenyan Goals: Where Youth Leadership, Sport, and Health Meet

Sport has always been more useful in Dago when it opens a door to something larger. Kenyan Goals brings together youth engagement, health education, mentoring, teamwork, and community connection within Friends of Dago’s Youth Leadership, Sports & Health pathway.

More than a sports event

The program grew from the idea that young people need spaces where they can gather, compete, learn, build confidence, and connect with information and services that matter to their wellbeing. Organizational records describe the Medical & Sports Camp as having scaled across 14 villages, with the current verified impact snapshot recording annual reach of more than 8,000 people.

Across the wider pathway, Friends of Dago connects sports with youth leadership, HIV/AIDS prevention and health education, first aid, peer mentorship, and positive community participation.

Youth are participants and leaders

The larger purpose is not to frame young people only as beneficiaries. Youth have knowledge, energy, relationships, and leadership capacity that can strengthen the community itself. Sport can provide an accessible platform for practicing teamwork, responsibility, communication, and service.

Evidence should remain connected to context

Friends of Dago is strengthening how program evidence is documented and published. Rather than presenting one large participation number without explanation, the organization is separating annual reach, cumulative results, and point-in-time program snapshots so partners can understand what each figure actually means.

That same standard applies to Kenyan Goals: participation matters, but so do the quality of engagement, the health and leadership learning around the event, and the relationships that continue after it.
