From Community Roots to Today: Dago’s Historical Evidence Guide

Dago’s community-led development story began before Friends of Dago was founded in the United States in 2010. Historical records describe women-led organizing, locally managed education and feeding, and later partnerships that supported agriculture, housing, livelihoods and youth activities.

A history with distinct milestones

A retrospective account describes women organizing in Dago in 1996. Dago Dala Hera’s organizational history records formal community registration in 2002. Friends of Dago’s U.S. support organization was founded in 2010. These dates refer to different milestones; community leadership preceded the U.S. organization.

Project documents also give a dated account of livestock and food-security progress in 2009, education and feeding support in 2009–2010, a 2011 sports-and-health planning record, community-reported housing and livestock milestones in 2013, and individual women’s enterprise interviews in 2018. The records distinguish completed progress from proposed activities, and historical figures from current community-reported scale.
