Media, Storytelling & Consent

Friends of Dago uses photography, video, interviews, and community stories to communicate impact and strengthen relationships. We aim to tell stories in ways that preserve dignity, context, agency, and community ownership.

Our Storytelling Principles

• Seek appropriate permission before intentionally collecting or publishing identifiable stories, images, or recordings.
• Use additional care when children, vulnerable individuals, health information, financial hardship, or other sensitive circumstances are involved.
• Avoid humiliating, sensational, exploitative, or misleading portrayals of people or communities.
• Explain the intended use of material when practical and respect reasonable limits placed on that use.
• Do not promise confidentiality and then publish identifying information.
• Favor community voice and context over narratives that portray outside supporters as the sole source of change.

Children and Young People

For identifiable media involving minors, appropriate parent, guardian, school, program, or responsible local authorization should be obtained as applicable. A young person’s own comfort and wishes should also be respected whenever practical.

Visitors and Partners

Visitors, volunteers, institutional partners, and learning groups should not assume that participation gives unrestricted permission to photograph, interview, post, tag, or directly contact community members. Follow the guidance of Friends of Dago and local hosts.

If you believe Friends of Dago is using your image or story in a way that should be reviewed, contact info@friendsofdago.org. We will review the concern and take reasonable corrective action where appropriate.
